Effective business intelligence provides us with independence and freedom that comes from proactively identifying and capturing business opportunities.
Effective business intelligence shapes a positive future, effects change and transformation, and ultimately provides us with a measure of independence and freedom: the independence to access and analyze relevant information without being dependent upon IT or power users, the freedom to make informed, confident decisions, and ultimately the independence that comes from proactively identifying and capturing business opportunities.
Influence…“Shaping a Positive Future”
Impact…“Effecting Change and Transformation”
In the spirit of Independence Day in the United States, these two concepts of shaping a positive future and effecting change and transformation were fully embodied in the lives, the work, and the sacrifice of our founding fathers. It is because of the influence and impact of these 57 signers of the Declaration of Independence and so many more who have since defended freedom that we have the independence, freedom, and liberties we enjoy today.
“Independence”, is another great “i” word. Using Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary I summarize the meaning of this word as:
Independence…“Not Dependent Upon or Subject to Control by Others”
Independence and democracy are epitomized by the phrase “power to the people.” I can’t think of a better way to characterize business intelligence than putting the power of information in the hands of people – customer-facing employees, suppliers, and even your customers themselves. Utilizing information management and data management capabilities, stakeholders inside and outside our client organizations are achieving this independence and freedom.
If your organization has not yet realized an information independence day, pledge today to do what you can do within your sphere of influence to shape a positive future for your organization. You likely won't form a new country or a new system of government for the next 200 years, but you certainly can shape a positive future for many people around you and help them achieve the freedom and independence they need to do their jobs the best they can. That's something worth fighting for.
